Solar panel installation in Tenerife: generate your own power

Grid-connected self-consumption systems for villas, houses, apartments and businesses across the south of Tenerife. Sized from your real consumption, installed to the REBT and legalised so your surplus is compensated under RD 244/2019.

How we size a system

A system is sized from your consumption profile, not from the roof area and not from a standard package. We look at 12 months of bills, your contracted power and when in the day you use energy.

The compensation cap

Under RD 244/2019 simplified compensation, exported surplus is credited on your bill, but the credit cannot exceed the energy part of that month’s bill. You can take the energy charge to zero, not below. An oversized system gives energy away for nothing, which is why we size to consumption and consider a battery only when evening use justifies it.

Daytime loads are the best case

Air conditioning, pool pumps, heat pumps and home offices use power when the panels produce it. A villa with a pool in the south is the strongest solar case on the island.

Shade matters more than orientation

At this latitude the sun is high for most of the year, so south, south-east and south-west roofs perform within a few per cent of each other. Shade from a water tank, an aerial or a neighbour’s wall does far more damage, because one shaded module can pull down a whole string. We design strings around the shade, or use module-level optimisation where it pays.

Heat

Module output falls as cell temperature rises. We keep an air gap behind the panels and keep the inverter out of direct sun so it does not derate.

How the installation runs

  1. Free survey

Roof, shading at different sun angles, consumer unit, meter and cable route, on site.

  2. Written quote

Every component with its model number, labour and paperwork, and the expected annual generation.

  3. Installation

Typically one to two days for a domestic system.

  4. Testing

String tests, insulation resistance, protection tests and a written test record.

  5. Legalisation

Certificate, registration of the self-consumption installation and the compensation contract with your retailer.

The paperwork that makes it legal

StepWhat it does
CIE (boletín eléctrico)The low-voltage installation certificate filed with the Gobierno de Canarias. Required by law and by every grant scheme
Self-consumption registrationEvery self-consumption installation in the Canaries has to be registered
Distributor and retailerThe distributor updates the supply point and the retailer signs the compensation contract so surplus is credited
IGIC, not IVA. In the Canary Islands an installation carries the Canarian IGIC, not the 21% IVA of mainland Spain.
Grants and tax relief (Gobierno de Canarias and Cabildo programmes, IRPF deductions, IBI and ICIO reductions in some municipalities) change by round and by municipality. We check what is open for your property at quote stage and in which order to apply. Some schemes must be applied for before the work starts.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a battery?

Only if most of your consumption is after dark or you want backup. For daytime use, the same money in panels usually returns more. See solar batteries.

Can I install on a community roof?

Yes, with the community’s agreement. Shared self-consumption between several owners is also possible.

Does the system work in a power cut?

A standard grid-tied inverter shuts down during a cut. Backup needs a hybrid inverter, a battery and a backup circuit.

How much maintenance does it need?

A yearly visual check, connector and protection check, and cleaning when calima dust builds up.
