A charge point is not a socket on a wall. Dedicated circuit, correct RCD type and load management, installed to ITC-BT-52.
Straight from the consumer unit, never shared with a socket circuit, cable sized for continuous load.
Type A with 6 mA DC leakage detection built into the charger, or a Type B RCD. An ordinary Type AC device can be blinded by DC leakage.
Matched to the charger rating and the cable, not whatever was in the van.
The charger throttles back when the oven or air conditioning is on, so you do not trip your contracted power.
| Charger | Supply | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 3.7 kW (16 A) | Single phase | Overnight charging with a small contracted power |
| 7.4 kW (32 A) | Single phase | Most houses and villas |
| 11 kW (16 A per phase) | Three phase | Three-phase supplies, cars that accept 11 kW AC |
| 22 kW (32 A per phase) | Three phase | Few cars charge at 22 kW AC: check the car first |
We check your contracted power, the consumer unit and the cable route before recommending a charger, and whether dynamic load management is needed.
In Spain an owner can install a charge point in their own parking space in a community garage after notifying the community in advance; the installation does not need a community vote. Metering can be individual or from your own supply depending on how the building is wired, so we look at the riser and the garage supply before quoting.
With panels on the roof, a charger with a solar-surplus mode charges the car only from energy you would otherwise export. Because of the RD 244/2019 compensation cap, this is often the best use of surplus generation.
If the consumer unit needs replacing anyway, plan the EV circuit at the same time. Leaving space and the right protection costs almost nothing then; retrofitting means opening everything again.
